Your true workplace

How may times have you wearily looked at your to do list at the end of a long day and sighed that you did not get the things done that you originally intended to !? One of the mysteries of the modern work day is how perfectly sane people can gather around to create insanely distracting workplaces. Overflowing calendars, buzzing intercoms and hectic walks from one meeting room to another only creates a false sense of accomplishment.
"I could buy anything in the world, but I can't buy time. I have to be careful with it.", says Warren Buffet. He shows his pocket calendar where he only had three or four items listed for the week. This should not just apply to a thought leader like Mr. Buffet, this has to apply to every one one of us looking to accomplish something in our own small way.
Your true workplace is where you are able to devote time with a still mind to solving problems, finding smarter ways to do things and creating new stuff - all of which help shifts status quo and moves your agenda forward bit by bit. And right now it seems like folks are having to find their own true workplace somewhere else - at your daily walk, during the train ride to and from office, the half hour on the treadmill, your morning cup of coffee etc. But is this fair ? I would say not.
What would be fair is if you can give your colleagues the space they need to achieve this. So the next time you see someone bouncing off a tennis ball, sitting in a yoga pose or walking around the office in deep thought, don't sneer at them - find your own true workplace.
